    I am not using any disk management software besides CCC. I have heard of Mavericks corrupting WD drives but I am still using Mountain Lion on this machine. My backup drive still seems to be fine and everything is backed up online. After a reboot, I now get a "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" error. Get Info still listed it as having data but Finder listed 0 files.

To prevent something similar, I very recently (just over 1 month ago) restored my data to a 4TB WD My Book USB 3 drive. For some background, my previous was a Mediasonic 4 bay enclosure set to RAID 1+0 that worked fine for 6 years and then died, corrupting all the data on 3 of 4 drives. I use an external drive as my primary data drive.
